LeRAVe Jewelry’s story begins with a young girl, Caryl Francis Moore, and her father, E.T. Francis.

Francis settled in South Boston with his family and began working as a master watch maker. After a few years, he opened Francis Watch Shop that later became Francis Jewelry. It was in her father’s store that Caryl developed a love of retail, and at the age of 13 while doing a school project she decided on her career choice.

She graduated community college with two AAS degrees; one in business management and the other in merchandising management. She gained experience by working in a variety of retail stores, and it was during this time she married her high school sweetheart, Tim Moore.

Tim, a former resident of Mecklenburg County, worked honing his natural skills as a mechanic. This took the couple to another state for a while.

Upon deciding to return to Halifax County to start a family, Caryl’s father offered Moore a job and would send him to school to become a jeweler.

Starting in 1985, through the Gemological Institute of America, Moore earned certificates in basic and advanced stone setting, basic and advanced diamond grading, diamond grading seminar, graduate diamonds, colored stone essentials and insurance replacement appraisal and pearl identification.

He worked for 21 years as the jeweler for Francis Jewelry. In 2006, Francis decided to close his business and retire after 50 years. It was then that Moore and his wife, Caryl, decided to open their own store.

On Feb. 10, 2007, LeRAVe Jewelry opened its doors.

Named after the Moore’s four children by using the first letter of their middle names (the capital letters) and with “e’s” added to make it phonetic, LeRAVe provides the same family oriented ideals of Francis’ store with focus on quality, affordability and customer service.

Over the past 10 years, the family has worked together to grow LeRAVe Jewelry just as the Moore family has grown. Each of the children has worked at LeRAVe and now as adults still continue to help with innovative ideas.

LeRAVe Jewelry has the area’s only in house full-service jeweler and gemologist.

LeRAVe believes in continued education to better serve their customers. Moore is a certified LASERSTAR welder. He also is certified in the Matrix computer aided design system by Gemvision.

Caryl has earned the title of GIA accredited jewelry professional and is currently working to earn her certificate in diamond and diamond grading. Her main focus at LeRAVe is advertising and merchandising.

Around October of 2015, LeRAVe was pleased to add to the LeRAVe family Lanier Moore-Cole and Jordan Wilborne.

Lanier Moore-Cole hails from Garland Jewelry in Halifax. She brings with her to LeRAVe a 46-year career with Garland’s.

Jordan Wilborne recently began her career in jewelry and retail. She already has developed skills in minor watch repair, engraving, sales and merchandising. She also maintains LeRAVe’s social media accounts and website.

LeRAVe is fortunate to have such an excellent staff.

LeRAVe offers jewelry cleaning and inspection, appraisals, custom jewelry design, gift wrap, watch and car remote battery replacement, watch bands and minor watch repair, engraving, ear piercing, convenient layaway and free gift wrapping.

On Feb. 10, LeRAVe will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary at Hupps Mill Plaza in South Boston.

It’s a pleasure to be a part of and continue to serve the community.

The Moore’s are so thankful for their patrons and look forward to serving Halifax County and the surrounding areas for many more decades.
